Wolfee Donuts owner says customers are "flocking to the store in show of support."
One way to improve business? Have frequently cat-eared songstress Ariana Grande lick your product and talk about hating America on tape. The 22-year-old pop star was caught on camera licking several doughnuts and declaring she hates America at Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore, Calif. over the weekend. However, according to TheWrap, the incident has actually helped owner Joe Marin drastically increase business.
Marin is still outraged over the incident because he ended up selling the tainted doughnuts later in the day. Plus, soon after the tape leaked, the doughnut shop received more bad news: Eater LA writes that the Department of Health may have knocked Wolfee's rating from an A to a B over the "seriously unsanitary incident." However, Grande has inadvertently helped bring in a grande amount of business. Marin tells TheWrap customers have been "flocking to the store in a show of support" and business has "tripled" since the incident.
Things haven't worked out so smoothly for Grande: Many sources say she dropped out of this weekend's MLB All-Star Concert over the incident, though she claims that it was due to "emergency oral surgery." Marin says he still has not received an apology from the singer and that he is not "buying the statement she released" in which she states she is "extremely proud to be an American."
In the statement, Grande chalked up the incident to her concern over the health of Americans: "I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole."
