Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams Reopens All Scoop Shops, Hopefully for Good

The scoop shops will initially serve a limited menu.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is reopening its scoop shops across the country on Saturday, hopefully for good. The Ohio-based company has been plagued with Listeria-related problems this year. It initiated a voluntary recall of its products in April after a random sample showed that the Listeria bacteria was present.

The recall — which involved shuttering the scoop shops — cost the company a whopping $2.5 million. The stores eventually reopened but shuttered once again earlier this month over more Listeria concerns.

The company notes on its website that all scoop shops will reopen 5 p.m. Saturday. For now, Jeni's will serve a limited menu of ice creams, frozen yogurts, and sorbets made for the company by Smith Dairy, a 110-year-old dairy in Orrville, Ohio. The chain will add "more flavors to the menu in the coming weeks." Let's just hope that none of them end up being Listeria.
