Virginia Restaurant Refuses to Serve Patrons Wearing Trump T-Shirts

The Facebook comments are getting ugly

146 days remain until Election Day; in the meantime, expect to hear plenty more stories like this one. A Virginia restaurant has stirred up controversy by refusing to serve a family wearing Trump t-shirts and "Make America Great Again" hats, according to WTVR.

Shannon Riggs and her two cousins stopped at a Cook Out restaurant in the town of Colonial Heights for dinner after attending a Trump Rally in nearby Richmond. Riggs claims that when she approached the window to order, an employee said, "Hell no! I'm not serving them." Riggs says after some discussion, the staff took her order, but when her cousin went to retrieve the food a few minutes later she was denied.

Riggs says she canceled the order and asked for the restaurant's corporate phone number as the employees laughed at her. "Once you witness [discrimination] first hand, it's a totally different experience. I was in a state of shock," Riggs' 16-year-old cousin, Lauren Wolfrey, told WTVR. (Discrimination is a terrible thing, isn't it, Lauren?)

Unsurprisingly, the restaurant's Facebook page has been flooded with outraged comments. "Gee Cookout.... You have employees who decide they will not serve Trump supporters and you do not FIRE them immediately? You'd be bending over backwards if they were black or Muslims!" one writes. "Trump people will crush this place," says another.

Meanwhile, the restaurant insists this was an isolated incident and has issued the following statement: "Cook Out is, and always has been, a politically neutral company. We welcome all customers regardless of political affiliation. Regarding the refusal of service at our Colonial Heights location, the situation has been resolved and was resolved that night per Cook Out policy."
