The Bernie Sanders, Bill Clinton Burger Face-Off: In-N-Out Edition

Winning hearts and minds one burger at a time

If you're hoping to appeal to California voters ahead of the primary, there's probably no better PR strategy for winning hearts and minds than paying a visit to In-N-Out. The Sanders and Clinton campaigns continued their restaurant face-offs this week by making stops at the pretty much universally beloved burger chain on Friday to the delight of patrons and restaurant workers.

True to form, Sanders wagged his finger as he leaned over the counter at staffers to place his order at a restaurant in the town of Pinole near Berkeley. According to the Daily Mail, the presidential hopeful ordered a cheeseburger, soda, and french fries, which he later shared with a group of kids at the restaurant.

Representing his wife on the campaign trail, former president and one-time lover of McDonald's, Bill Clinton, also dropped by an In-N-Out in the San Fernando Valley. Clinton, a vegan, reportedly placed a massive order for 50 burgers and fries — probably for campaign staff — and snapped pictures with workers and customers.

With both candidates seemingly finding equal ground on the issue of In-N-Out, the race is still likely to be tight. Hillary Clinton herself is a known fan of Chipotle chicken bowls with guacamole, keeps hot sauce in her bag, and can't resist the call of ice cream (really who can?). In contrast, Bernie sticks to smoothies, fresh fruit, nuts, and locally raised meat. He's also inspired plenty of foods — beers, condiments, ice cream, and a hummus wrap to name a few. Meanwhile, their Cheeto-colored Republican rival Donald Trump mysteriously refuses to touch food with his hands, hates Oreos, and once peddled a line of namesake steaks at Sharper Image. The Filet-o-Fish fan recently celebrated his delegate victory with a McDonald's Big Mac.
