Chick-Fil-A Lures Mobile Ordering App Users With Free Chicken Sandwiches

The company redeemed more than 131,000 sandwiches in three days

Fried chicken chain Chick-Fil-A took the free app world by storm this week with the Wednesday launch of its new pay-ahead mobile ordering and rewards programs. Business Insider reports that in three days the app had been downloaded more than a million times, rocketing it to the top of iTunes free app download chart.

Based on app reviews, the timesaving convenience of customized, pay-ahead ordering was a major draw for customers. However, the offer of a free chicken sandwich for mobile users — which runs through June 11 — was probably the biggest factor encouraging the chain's fans to hit download. The company has redeemed more than 131,000 free sandwiches since Wednesday.

Loyalty programs and mobile ordering seem to be every chain's favorite new strategy for attracting customers. Much to the disappointment of some customers Starbucks recently altered its loyalty program, but the coffee giant's mobile ordering accounts for approximately four percent of sales across all stores and up to "20 percent during peak hours." Dunkin' Donuts also recently launched a pilot mobile order and pay app for select locations in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
