Tourist Flees to the Airport in Stolen Pizza Delivery Vehicle

That's one way to get a ride to the airport

Convincing a friend or family member to drive you to the airport can be touch, so one man in Wyoming took matters into his own hands. A tourist from Vermont who was visiting Jackson Hole last week took off in a pizza delivery vehicle that the driver left running outside his hotel, reports the Jackson Hole News & Guide — and seemingly got away with it.

21-year-old Quinn McElwain and his friends had gotten into an argument when McElwain, who had reportedly been drinking, decided to leave town. His friends later reported him missing; the police had already gotten a report of a Pizza Hut delivery vehicle being stolen from the hotel, and quickly figured out that the two were related — though at that point, McElwain had already made it safely to the airport and boarded a flight to Chicago.

Police in Chicago were awaiting McElwain's arrival at the airport, but somehow ended up at the wrong gate and missed him. Since the crime is a misdemeanor, Mashable notes there's a good chance he won't end up being charged; according to police, the crime "does not fit a felony grand theft auto charge because [McElwain] did not intend to permanently deprive the owner of the vehicle."

Pizza Hut has yet to comment on the situation, but it's probably safe to say the company doesn't want to make a habit of lending their delivery vehicles out for airport trips.
